Fire Warden Manual: October 2024
Please watch the videos below to see what the fire evacuation responsibilities are for the Curator, Door Greeter (Area 1 Warden), Children’s Space Curator (Area 2 Warden).
Match them to the plan in the manual above and it should all make sense.
We are relying on you following through on these as they have been devised to sweep the building in an emergency (If you change the process on the fly, then that makes things a bit tricky as we can't say to the Fire Service that we've done a complete sweep). We welcome any ideas you might have to improve this, but until we update this site, this are our current policy.
Announce Evacuation and assign someone to ring 111
Identify those with special requirements and assign helpers accordingly. 1 per person with an ambulatory difficulty, 4 per wheelchair. Instruct wheelchair helpers to wait until fire exit is clearing before evacuating. Wheelchairs should exit on the Burleigh Street exit of the Auditorium foyer.
Begin evacuation of Auditorium begins smoothly
Check central toilets
Put on Vest and Grab the Building Warden’s Clipboard by Door
Wait for Fire service at control panel on Mt Eden Road
Collect reports from Area 1 and Area 2 Wardens
Grab Fire Warden Armband and put it on
Ensure Parents don't go to collect their children (the parent could be walking into the fire area, and chances are the kids will have been evacuated before they get there)
Position yourself as last person to leave auditorium and repeat to meet down at the corner of Burleigh and Mt Eden Road.
